FAQ

What Can I Expect?

Deciding to embark upon therapy can be a big step.  People have all kinds of reasons for seeking some help.  There may be a specific problem, such as depression, anxiety, or a recent stressful event.  Many people wish to explore ways to find out more about themselves, with a view to making positive improvements in their lives.

What Happens First?

Your first contact will be an Assessment Session, lasting approximately 45 minutes. This gives us a chance to talk about why you are seeking therapy, and I can give you an idea of some possible ways forward. We can also get the paperwork out of the way! During your assessment we will talk about your goals and what you want to achieve through therapy. There is no obligation to continue once this session is complete. If you choose to continue, I will usually offer you an initial series of six sessions. This is a good number in which to see whether an approach is working well, or whether it might be a good idea to try something different.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

You decide. When we meet for the assessment session we can discuss what your needs are, and I can suggest a timeframe. Very directive therapy, concentrated on practical solutions to specific problems, can bring about big improvements in a short timeframe. Where the problem is less focused, there will generally be more exploration work, and this can most effectively be done over a longer timescale. A rough estimate would be six sessions for focused work, and more like twelve to twenty for more complex, in-depth work.

How and when can I contact you?

I can be contacted on 07903 827462. I check and respond to my messages at least once every weekday.  I also check my messages before every appointment in case of late cancellation.  I can also be contacted at keepafloattherapes@gmail.com – however, I cannot answer detailed questions or enter into lengthy correspondence via email or text.  Your therapy should be kept to your sessions, and email used for brief exchanges of information such as cancelling or re-scheduling appointments.

If you find yourself becoming distressed and need to contact someone urgently you should call your GP, or call 999.  I am not an emergency service, and cannot guarantee to get back to you straight away – I may well be working with other clients when you call.
